According to the 2008 census of Quebec’s government, close to 50% of the students in Montreal city are recently arrived immigrants and this percentage isincreasing daily. If we consider that a part of the students already consists of immigrants who arrived many years ago, it means that the majority of them all is coming from other countries with othercultures and religions. In order to understand and accept people of our society, schools should teach teenagers a variety of religions and cultures.
First, it is important to know that the firststep to understand immigrants is to learn about their religions and cultures. This step should be done in every high school of Montreal city because teenagers are quite open and they are mature enough tounderstand these concepts. Also, they are an important part of the next generation in which immigrants are the majority of the population. Being more than teenagers from Montreal, immigrants deservean important place in society. From the moment teenagers know about other religions and cultures, they can understand the immigrants that surround them. To live in peace, it is important to make ahomogeneous society in which there is no discrimination because of other people’s origins. In other words, teenagers should have religion classes in order to learn about immigrants so they can understandand accept them and so immigrants can feel at home.
Also, there are a lot of immigrants in Montreal and all of them have their own religion and culture. By giving religion classes to teenagers athigh school, we can help them integrate immigrants. How?
