Euro-Mediterranean 1st Festival
Event Description
I) Objectives
The knowledge and the exchange of experience between the Mediterranean periphery’s cities and regions which are alike constitute a way of linking up the nations and cultivate the Mediterranean citizenship.
The Mediterranean, the cradle of civilizations, is more than a commercialexchanges’ space, it is also a meetings, exchanges and creativity space, and this should be a peace, tolerance and blossoming area of its different citizens as well.
These nations that, as distant time passes, have been mixed by the multiple immigration’s waves in different senses and forms, wish nowadays to keep, enrich and intensifier the common values.
It is in this context and, on theedge of year 2009, that the Algerian Forum for Citizenship and Modernity (FACM), intends to organise with its international partners (COPPEM, CGLU, CGLUA, OVA, ALDA*) and local (Miniseries, organisms, local communities, etc…) the cities and regions Euro- Mediterranean 1st Festival.

This festival intends to be renewed each year into one of the Mediterranean countries, aiming at:
– Encouraging the interaction and exchange between the Mediterranean’s civilizations and cultures ;
– Promoting the cities and regions in the tourist, cultural andartistic field;
– Contributing to the economical, cultural and human resources‘ development of the Mediterranean cities and regions;
– Encouraging the youngsters’ participation whatever they are students, artists or entrepreneurs in the festival’s activities;
– Working for the continuity of the Mediterranean’s two shores to lean on common values and encourage them to manage theirdivergences on the basis of a democratic dialogue.
II) Thematic
Several themes will be broached during this 1st festival that will last six (06) days between July and August 2009. The main themes are:
– Environment and sustainable development,
– Tourism,
– Cultures’ dialogue,
– Citizen education,
– Youngsters’ free purpose.
III) Participation
Thefestival is open to all the Mediterranean countries which want to participate with a limited number of 10 persons for each country, whose trip’s costs from and towards country of origin are on the responsibility of participant organisms.
The welcoming country will ensure the lodging and restoration during the festival.
IV) Organization
The festival will be organized in partnershipwith our hereafter potential partners:
– Permanent committee for the Euro-Mediterranean partnership (COPPEM),
– United local cities and governments (CGLU),
– African United local cities and governments (CGLUA),
– Arab towns’ organisations (OVA),
– Local democracy agencies’ association (ALDA)
In two forms:
– Scientific meetings, by communications and posters inrelation with the mentioned themes and through the diffusion of the citizen culture in the sensitization and information workshops;
– Artistic, leisure and sports activities.
To carry out this, an organization committee will be put in place. This committee will be composed of FACM office members and a representative of each participant country.
The committee will be subdivided intosix (06) commissions:
– Commissions 1: finance and sponsoring,
– Commissions 2: logistic and lodging,
– Commissions 3: communication,
– Commissions 4: welcoming and security,
– Commissions 5: management of the village,
– Commissions 6: programmes and animation.
