Setting up a Proxy Server for Remote Database Access
The proxy server allows you to access library databases from off campus using your 6-character SNC network login ID and password.

Firefox
1.2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. In Firefox, go to Tools ? Options (Firefox – Preferences on the Mac). Click on the Advanced category. On the Network tab, under Connection, click on Settings button. Choose “Manualproxy configuration.” In the “HTTP Proxy” box, type: proxy.snc.edu. In the “Port” box, type: 3128. Click OK to close both boxes. Close Firefox and open it again. The next time you go to any web site,you will be prompted to log in. Enter your SNC login ID and password. You will now be able to access SNC library databases (see http://www.snc.edu/library for links). 8. When finished using librarydatabases, turn the proxy server off (for browsing other web sites). Go back to Tools ? Options ? Advanced ? (Connection) Settings and change the setting back to “Direct connection to the Internet”(Firefox 2) or “No proxy” (Firefox 3). You do not have to delete the information you entered in step 5; it will be saved, so you can reenable it again at any time just by choosing “Manual proxyconfiguration.”

Safari (Mac)
In Safari, go to Safari ? Preferences. Click on the Advanced category. Click on the Change Settings button at the bottom next to “Proxies.” Check the “Web Proxy (HTTP)” box. Inthe “Web Proxy Server” box, type: proxy.snc.edu. In the small box to the right (after the “:”), type: 3128. Click the Apply Now button. 6. Close the window by clicking the red circle in the upper leftcorner. Close the “Advanced” dialog box too. 7. The next time you go to any web site, you will be prompted to log in. Enter your SNC login ID and password. You will now be able to access SNC librarydatabases (see http://www.snc.edu/library for links). 8.
